To Have a Cell Phone Contract? Or Not to Have a Cell Phone Contract? That Is the Question

I think the time is coming sooner rather than later, when we will no longer see wireless phone contracts. There is a certain kind of wireless service provider that we in the industry call an MVNO, a mobile virtual network operator. There are many MVNOs and some are really good. An MVNO doesn't own the license or equipment to provide wireless service. They buy wireless service at wholesale prices and resell it to the consumer. There are literally hundreds of these types of companies. just because they are not the actual producer of the service they should not be overlooked. Remember they are supplying you the same service as the big wireless providers.
MVNOs can be very competitive and can give great service. This is great for the consumer. The big service providers sell their service to these MVNO companies. Then they have to compete with the companies that they sell to. In my opinion this self-made competition is causing the larger wireless providers to consider offering prepaid plans. The kind like the MVNO companies offer. Without this added competition, I imagine wireless service would still be an expensive luxury. Only hi-powered business executives could afford to use.

You can see why the MVNO companies can offer service without a contract. They have little to no infrastructure cost so they don't need a long term commitment from their customers. Although they sometimes have special discounts, you will generally have to pay full price for the phone, if you go with an MVNO. Probably the biggest downfall dealing with an MVNO is support. If there is a problem with the network, they are not the ones that are going to fix it. The answers to the problem may become vague or weak. However the bottom line is the problem will be fixed. But you can see how that you can get service at a good price.
To wrap this up, you can get affordable wireless service using one of these MVNO companies, and you still get good service area coverage using a MVNO. You can even get your wireless service without a contract. But you may have to pay full price for a phone. It may be tough to get a clear answer if there is a service problem in your area. These are the main pros and cons you should look at when thinking of using an MVNO company for your wireless service provider. I hope this information is of value to you.
